RB Lewis released by Browns, may retire (AP)

The Cleveland Browns have released running back Jamal Lewis. Lewis’ season ended on Dec. 2 when he was placed on injured reserve with post-concussion symptoms. After Cleveland’s final game, Lewis revealed that he was still suffering from headaches and blurred vision as a result of the concussion, which he sustained in the season opener against Minnesota.

Titans agree to terms with G Amano (AP)

The Tennessee Titans agreed to terms with veteran guard Eugene Amano on a multiyear contract, the team announced Wednesday. Keeping Amano is a key piece to maintaining the Titans’ offensive line — considered one of the best in the NFL. The Titans still must sign veteran center Kevin Mawae to keep the line together.

Panthers sign former Colts DT Johnson (AP)

The Carolina Panthers have signed defensive tackle Ed Johnson, adding depth to their line and taking a chance on a player with a checkered past. The 6-foot-2, 296-pound Johnson started all 16 games in 2007 as an undrafted rookie with Indianapolis under current Panthers defensive coordinator Ron Meeks.

Ravens sign WR Stallworth to 1-year deal (AP)

The Baltimore Ravens say they have signed wide receiver Donte’ Stallworth to a one-year contract. Stallworth was recently released by the Cleveland Browns after being reinstated by the NFL following a one-year suspension. He was suspended for violating the league’s personal-conduct policy for a DUI vehicular manslaughter charge.

Merriman, reality star settle lawsuits (AP)

Attorneys say San Diego Chargers linebacker Shawne Merriman and reality television star Tila Tequila have settled dueling lawsuits. Merriman was arrested by sheriff’s deputies Sept. 6 after Tequila accused him of battery and false imprisonment at his suburban San Diego home. Prosecutors declined to charge Merriman but Tequila, whose real name is Tila Nguyen, filed a lawsuit that alleged the…

Jets’ Sanchez scheduled for knee surgery (AP)

Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez is scheduled to have surgery Wednesday to repair the patella ligament in his left knee. Sanchez, who led New York to the AFC title game as a rookie, should be completely healthy by the start of training camp in July. The procedure is expected to help prevent future tweaks to the kneecap area.

Sebastian Janikowski and the Oakland Raiders agreed on a $16 million, four-year deal Tuesday that is the richest contract for a kicker in NFL history, the team said. Janikowski will be guaranteed $9 million in the deal, a person familiar with the contract said on condition of anonymity because the team did not announce terms.

Union: NFL hasn’t fully shared revenue (AP)

The NFL Players Association has challenged the league’s right to eliminate a supplemental revenue-sharing program among the 32 teams. NFLPA assistant executive director George Atallah confirmed Tuesday that the union sent a letter to an arbitrator disputing the league’s right to unilaterally drop the revenue-sharing under the current collective bargaining agreement.
