Rangers put rookie OF Murphy on DL (AP)

The Texas Rangers placed outfielder David Murphy on the 15-day disabled list Thursday with a sprained right knee. Murphy, who leads AL rookies with 74 RBIs and 114 hits, is expected to miss two to four weeks. An MRI on his injured knee revealed a sprained posterior cruciate ligament. Just like Manchester City and Everton, Portsmouth is coming off their best season in England’s top division in years, and I’m not sure there’d be much argument from the South Coast side’s supporters by saying it was the best season in club history. Portsmouth wound up in 8th place, their highest-ever finish in the Premiership (though not in the old First Division).

Fresh reports out of London are breaking the news that Chelsea have officially submitted a bid for Real Madrid winger/striker Robinho. Roman Abramovich’s side have bid £19.7 million for the Brazilian and Real Madrid have not yet responded.

This news comes as a surprise to me considering that Madrid are going through an injury crisis.

Browns rookie linebacker Beau Bell had arthroscopic surgery Thursday to remove loose cartilage from behind his right kneecap. Cleveland did not announce a timetable for Bell’s return. Bell, a fourth-round pick out of UNLV, was the Browns’ first overall selection. Cleveland traded away its first three picks.
