Jack Nicklaus, the “Golden Bear,” isn’t at the U.S. Senior Open, so a black bear will have to do. The inquisitive beast ambled out of the wilderness and onto the East Course at the Broadmoor on Friday, crossing the 13th fairway between ESPN on-course color analyst Dottie Pepper and golfer Bernard Langer and his caddie, Terry Holt, before trying to mingle with spectators outside the ropes.

Grappling wizard and current UFC middleweight contender Dean Lister has been forced to withdraw from his scheduled bout against Thales Leites at UFC Fight Night 15 on September 17th after suffering a knee injury during a recent training session.
Lister’s management team confirmed the injury with MMA Weekly earlier this afternoon. Lister is only expected to be out of action for a couple of weeks and his bout against Leites is said to be currently in talks to be moved to a yet-to-be-announced UFC event in Portland, Oregon in November. According to Lister’s management team, matchmaker Joe Silva was very understanding of Lister’s injury and will attempt to get him a future fight as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, Leites tells Tatame.com that Lister’s withdrawal is now the second straight opponent that pulled out of a fight against him at the same event. Leites stated that newcomer Goran Reljic, who surprisingly stopped Wilson Gouveia at UFC 84 in May, also became injured in recent weeks as well.
“Now I don’t know who will I fight with”, Leites said in the article. “I was thinking and all the other guys from my division are with opponents. They said I’ll fight, but I don’t know against who.”

The official CONCACAF website has been posting profiles of this year’s Champions League participants since last week. The profiles are decent and it looks like they’re put some time in writing them. One critique is that there’s not a hyperlink to the club’s official website, even though the website URL is highlighted in blue.
Yankees outfielder Xavier Nady was out of the starting lineup Thursday night against the Los Angeles Angels because of inflammation in his right quadriceps. Nady, acquired from the Pittsburgh Pirates last weekend, felt the injury after his first at-bat Wednesday night. He said he was able to run with it, but the team wanted to play it safe.

Fifteen minor league players and two managers were suspended and fined Friday for their part in a 10-minute, bench-clearing brawl that sent one fan to the hospital. The rest of the players on both rosters also were fined for leaving their positions or the dugout, Midwest League President George Spelius said.
As any competitive athlete would likely be, Briana Scurry wasn’t happy about being left off the Olympic roster. She said as much to certain media.
Another coach might have taken offense to being second-guessed, might have avoided working with Scurry or deemed her presence a negative distraction to the players who were picked over her.
Remember way back on the 4th of July when we at MLSR told you that Juan Toja might be headed to Bucharest?
According to the official blog of FC Dallas, its a done deal.
Here’s the blog entry:
"Late this afternoon, we here at the FCD Blog were able to witness Juan Toja signing off on the final document that sealed his transfer from FC Dallas to Romanian club Steaua Bucuresti.
The transfer window has swung open, accompanied by movement both between MLS and parts foreign and within the league itself. DC has busied itself by offloading Sudamericanos and importing Earthquakes. The latest to land on the VDub bulls-eye is Ivan Guerrero, the left-sided midfielder and defender who was one of Chicago’s key players prior to Osorio’s arrival in Fire-land and his subsequent
